A Day in the Life – Meet Omniway Developer Nicklas Holmgren

In his role, Nicklas works on everything from new features and improvements to support-related tasks and bug fixes. Much of this work happens behind the scenes, but its impact is clearly felt when the platform becomes more stable, smoother, and easier to use.

What a Typical Workday Can Look Like

Nicklas starts the day by greeting his colleagues and catching up on Slack and email. He then picks up a task from GitHub, where the development team works on improvements and features for the learning platform.

“It’s the variety of tasks that makes the job enjoyable. It never becomes monotonous,” Nicklas says.

The morning is spent coding until lunch, which the team often eats together at the office. Sometimes with Mästarnas mästare playing in the background.

After lunch, work continues on new or ongoing tasks until the afternoon, when there is another break. Sometimes this means a round of pool or darts before the workday wraps up around five.

Small Changes That Make a Big Difference

Working as a developer at Omniway is often about improving the platform step by step. This can involve anything from new features to adjustments in existing workflows.

Right now, Nicklas is working on a task that will allow users to see whether a student has a special accommodation in connection with an exam.

“It’s a fairly concrete feature, but it makes things easier for the people who use the system in practice.”

This type of improvement is an important part of the work. Even smaller adjustments can make a big difference in everyday life for teachers and administrators.

Sometimes, the work is also about solving problems.

“When you find a bug and fix it, you immediately feel that you’ve made a difference.”

Collaboration as a Natural Part of the Job

As a junior developer, Nicklas works independently on his tasks, but never in isolation. The work is built around collaboration and clear processes.

When a task is completed, the code is reviewed by other developers before it is approved and later deployed. This provides quality assurance, but also creates a natural way to share knowledge within the team.

“It’s easy to ask for help. Everyone is very skilled, and there is always someone who knows about the specific thing you’re stuck on.”

What Drives Motivation

What Nicklas appreciates most about his work is the variety and the opportunity to develop. At the same time, his colleagues play a major role.

“There is a lot of knowledge in the team. You’re learning all the time.”

Although the developer role often takes place behind the scenes, the connection to the end user is clear. Through support cases, Nicklas sees what needs exist and how changes in the system affect users.

“When you see that something you’ve done actually makes things easier for teachers or students, that feels good. We’re also growing as a company and gaining more customers. It’s motivating to see that what you do yourself is part of that.”

“Come Here If You Like Solving Problems”

Nicklas describes the culture at Omniway as relaxed, inclusive, and collaborative.

It’s about the small things: greeting each other, helping out in everyday work, and showing appreciation when someone has done something well.

“We laugh a lot and help each other. There’s simply a good atmosphere. Sometimes lunch is provided, which is always nice!”

To anyone considering applying to Omniway, Nicklas says:

“If you enjoy programming and are solution-oriented, you’ll thrive here.”

There is room to grow, both technically and in the role itself. For those who appreciate a social work environment, there are plenty of elements that contribute to it – from shared lunches to spontaneous games and activities.

“It’s a good combination of focus and community,” Nicklas concludes.
